A cooling action in an overheated system

You May Rest is a manifestation – a slow and silent collective practice to revalue the importance of rest and address the crises we face. The exhaustion of our planet, our social systems, our economy, and our bodies and minds.

What would be at stake if resting together were valued as a part of our public lives, and we could rest whenever we needed to?

Like a friendly parasite, a pop-up space for resting will land in front of Copenhagen’s Town Hall and on the government building square.

Come join the resting community. Rest together with others. Rest to slow down consumption and production, to heal your organs, and to make space for deep listening.

Rest in between what is and what wants to become. A silent manifestation amidst traffic sounds, fragments of conversations, the smells of food and summer – a cooling space, giving rest back to rest.

Drop in anytime – or for specific resting sessions like:

  • The superhero rest
  • In rest we trust
  • Resting with elephants
  • Rest in peace

You will leave with an inspiration booklet for collective resting cultures in daily life.

A co-written collection of inspirational DIY recipes for resting together anytime and anywhere you/we need.

Let’s continue resting, there are so many good things that need to be done.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

hello!earth is Jacob Langaa-Sennek, set designer and visual artist, and Vera Maeder, choreographer and performance artist. With hello!earth, the audience is at the center as co-creators of the artistic works. The audience experiences, senses, and acts in performances that explore our consciousness and the myth of reality. Through several years, hello!earth has worked on developing gently staged sequences that lead to a heightened awareness and consciousness in a search for new spiritual and sensory communities. With input from philosophers and experts, hello!earth creates an artistic laboratory with space for big and fragile visions. Here, new thoughts and ideas can become reality, and here, the world is created instead of being consumed.

“You May Rest” is part of hello!earth’s exploration of rest and sleep in our hyper-efficient society. Metropolis has previously presented The Night (2018) og Tuesday Night Sleeping Club (2021).

THE PRESS WROTE ABOUT THE NIGHT

“When someone finally dares to think about the future, it is desperately needed that someone also takes the more constructive path (…). Good that hello!earth can light a small fire in our minds – with forward-looking force. An inspiring example of how theaters in these years have begun to use their force with a more outward-looking social perspective: (…). Using theater to find out how we can act together in other types of communities is a good exercise in democratic citizenship.”
