At Sydhavnstippen, a nomadic group of mourners has set up camp and offers guests a coveted service – to sing longing.

In a disintegrating Europe, with habitat loss, automated war zones, species extinction and mega-cities, an existential pandemic is spreading. Psychologists call it solastalgia – an existential longing that arises when we experience negative environmental changes happening in places dear to our hearts. A pervasive longing for ‘home’.

SOLASTALGIA reinterprets the mourner. A profession dating back before our era. The mourner’s task was to show up at funerals and sing away the sorrow, anger and demons. In SOLASTALGIA, the mourner’s song becomes a sci-fi musical. A site-specific and interactive performance in a near future. A vocal work of wild-growing voices and vibrations, taking place in the twilight of a man-made landscape. Can you remember Solastalgia?

Solastalgia could be experienced as a 48-hour work in 2021 at Sort/Hvid. Now the artistic team continues their investigation of musical, analog catharsis with the nomadic community ‘Arcadia’ at Sydhavnstippen.
