Joanne Leighton: ”The question of site is my starting point”

Choreographer Joanne Leighton has visited Copenhagen to find sites for her dance performance 9000 STEPS, which will be performed in August during Metropolis on three different sites.

For two days she has been walking around town to find the perfect sites – different enough to contribute in different ways to the performance. Raw industry, calm nature, bustling city centre, places connected to water…

In this video interview you can hear how Joanne has been inspired to experiment with different kinds of surfaces for her dancers – who normally dance 9000 STEPS on 2 tons of salt.

The very special light in Copenhagen has also inspired her to present the performance both at sunrise and sunset for the very first time.

9000 STEPS will be performed in Copenhagen in August. More info will follow on www.metropolis.dk.

Joanne Leighton and her company WLDN will also be in town in July with the performance MADE IN COPENHAGEN, created in collaboration with 99 Copenhageners.
